STRATHCLAIR ELDERS DANCE - JUNE 4, 2024

The Strathclair Elders Dance held at the Strathclair Hall on June 4th at 10 am was the fifth Elders Dance initiated by the Age Friendly Initiative (AFI) and the second one held with the Grade 7 and 8 students at Strathclair School. Musicians Zack Koscielny and Doreen Stapleton very capably provided the music for the dance.
Prior to the event three rehearsals were held at the school with AFI Committee members and older adults from the community helping to teach the students with the waltz, two-step, polka, schottische, butterfly and heel-toe polka, They were also taught dance etiquitte, proper dress-up attire and to "look at their partner and not their feet" when dancing.
The students decorated the hall for the event and assisted in preparing and serving the luncheon that followed. Great attendance by the public together with the group of enthusiastic students made the dance very successful. Those older adults who were not physically able to dance came out to enjoy the music and watch the students dance.
