Homeowners Affordability Tax Credit

The Manitoba Government has increased the Homeowners Affordability Tax Credit (HATC) up to a maximun of $1,600.00 for the 2026 tax year. Eligible homeowners will receive up to $1,600.00 towards the school portion of their property taxes.The HATC will be applied directly on the municipal tax statements. 

These are the eligibility requirements for HATC:

  • You are the registered property owner
  • The property is assessed as a single dwelling residential unit
  • The property is your principal residence
  • Neither you nor your spouse are receiving this credit on any other property in Manitoba


New property owners will have to declare their principal residence with the municipality BEFORE tax statement production has begun in order to have the HATC as an advance applied directly to the property tax statement. 

If you are unsure if you qualify or will be receiving this credit, you can contact the Municipal office during regular business hours Monday – Friday from 8:30 am - 12:00 pm and 1:00 pm - 4:30 pm.

Eligible homeowners who do not receive the HATC on their 2026 property tax bill can claim this credit on their 2026 income tax return. 

The School Tax Rebate at 50 percent for farm property owners is being maintained.   

The Farmland School Tax Rebate (which is a different program implemented by Manitoba Agricultural Services Corporation (MASC) will continue in 2026.
